Role Overview

The English Teacher will be responsible for teaching learners in the Intermediate and Senior Phase, ensuring they acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and understanding to excel in English HL and prepare for the demands of the FET phase. The role requires a passion for languages, the ability to inspire learners, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, future-focused education within a Christ-centered environment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Intermediate & Senior Phase Teachers are expected:

  • To deliver engaging and challenging English HL lessons that cater to diverse learning needs and abilities.

  • To foster a deep understanding of English Language concepts and strategies through an inquiry-based approach.

  • To integrate digital tools and resources to enhance the learning experience.

  • To demonstrate strength of character, integrity, and professionalism in all aspects of their role.

  • To develop and maintain positive partnerships with parents, colleagues, and the wider school community.

  • To communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders in a positive, respectful, and open-minded manner.

They will be accountable for:

  • Academic Delivery – Planning and implementing a curriculum that inspires linguistic curiosity and mastery.

  • Academic Assessment & Reporting – Designing fair and comprehensive assessments, providing constructive feedback, and reporting accurately.

  • Student Behaviour Management – Creating a structured and motivating learning environment where discipline is rooted in respect.

  • School Brand Ambassadorship – Representing Maragon Olympus with pride and embodying the school’s Christian ethos.

  • Administration – Managing academic records, lesson plans, and reporting efficiently.

  • Health & Safety – Prioritising the safety and well-being of all learners.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A B.Ed (Intermediate Phase) degree with a specialization in English HL OR a relevant degree with a PGCE.

  • SACE certification and valid Police Clearance (non-negotiable).

  • 2–5 years teaching experience, preferably in Intermediate Phase English Home Language

  • Strong computer and digital literacy, with the ability to integrate technology into Mathematics teaching.

  • Valid First Aid certification (advantageous).
