Role Overview
The Foundation Phase Music Teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering a vibrant, engaging, and developmentally appropriate music programme for learners from Grade 000 to Grade 3.
The role requires a passion for music education, the ability to inspire young learners, and a commitment to nurturing creativity, confidence, and self-expression within a Christ-centered environment. The successful candidate will foster a love for music while supporting learners’ cognitive, emotional, spiritual, and social development.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
The Foundation Phase Music Teacher is expected to:
Deliver engaging, age-appropriate music lessons that incorporate singing, rhythm, movement, instruments, and creative expression.
Develop learners’ foundational musical skills, including pitch, rhythm, tempo, dynamics, and basic music theory.
Foster confidence and joy in performance through assemblies, concerts, and school events.
Integrate music with Christian values and themes where appropriate.
Encourage participation, collaboration, and respectful listening in all music activities.
Integrate digital tools and resources to enhance musical learning where relevant.
Demonstrate strength of character, integrity, and professionalism in all aspects of their role.
Build positive relationships with learners, staff, and parents.
Accountabilities
Academic Delivery
Planning and implementing a structured, progressive Foundation Phase music curriculum that inspires creativity and musical growth.
Performance & Events Coordination
Preparing learners for school concerts, worship sessions, cultural events, and special functions.
Assessment & Reporting
Monitoring learner participation and development, providing constructive feedback, and reporting accurately where required.
Classroom & Behaviour Management
Creating a joyful yet structured environment where discipline is rooted in respect and positive reinforcement.
School Brand Ambassadorship
Representing Maragon Olympus with pride and embodying the school’s Christian ethos in conduct and communication.
Administration
Maintaining lesson planning, resources, and relevant documentation efficiently.
Health & Safety
Ensuring the safe handling of musical instruments and equipment.
Qualifications & Experience
A B.Ed (Foundation Phase) with Music as a specialisation OR
A relevant Music degree/diploma with a PGCE (Foundation Phase preferred).
SACE certification and valid Police Clearance (non-negotiable).
2–5 years teaching experience, preferably in Foundation Phase Music.
Proficiency in at least one musical instrument (piano preferred).
Strong vocal ability and confidence in leading group singing.
Strong computer and digital literacy.
Valid First Aid certification (advantageous).
