Role Overview

The Foundation Phase teacher will be responsible for teaching and mentoring Grade 1 learners during this vital transition into formal schooling. The role requires designing and delivering high-quality lessons that foster academic, social, and emotional growth while instilling a love of learning through inquiry and play-based foundations. The teacher will also guide learners in living out Christian values within and beyond the classroom.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Foundation Phase Teachers are expected:

  • To design and deliver future-focused education where students are motivated, inspired, and challenged.

  • To foster literacy, numeracy, creativity, and problem-solving skills in line with the CAPS curriculum and Maragon’s inquiry-based approach.

  • To create a structured, engaging, and supportive classroom environment where learners feel safe, valued, and inspired.

  • To demonstrate strength of character, integrity, and professionalism in all interactions.

  • To develop and maintain positive partnerships with parents, colleagues, and the wider community.

  • To communicate and collaborate with learners and adults in a positive, respectful, and open-minded way.

They will be accountable for:

  • Academic Delivery – Preparing and facilitating effective learning experiences.

  • Academic Assessment & Reporting – Assessing learner progress using a variety of tools and reporting meaningfully to parents.

  • Student Behaviour Management – Promoting positive discipline and responsibility in the classroom.

  • School Brand Ambassadorship – Representing Maragon Olympus’ values and ethos with excellence.

  • Administration – Keeping accurate records and fulfilling reporting/administrative requirements.

  • Health & Safety – Safeguarding learners’ wellbeing at all times.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A B.Ed (Foundation Phase) degree or equivalent qualification.

  • A PGCE (Foundation Phase) may be considered if the undergraduate degree is suitable.

  • SACE certification and valid Police Clearance (non-negotiable).

  • 2–5 years teaching experience in the Foundation Phase (Grade 1 preferred).

  • Strong computer and digital literacy for integrating technology into teaching.

  • Valid First Aid certification.
